Tap into your unconscious mind: Hypnotherapy in Cambridge

Our modern, digital age aims to give everyone convenience but for some, it comes with additional pressures and strains that can lead to negative habits. I offer hypnotherapy in Cambridge and can help with a wide range of conditions, issues and unwanted behaviours.

But if you’ve never tried hypnotherapy before, it might seem like an unorthodox treatment and, no doubt, you have questions about what it is and whether it works.

This article will explain what hypnotherapy is and how a hypnotherapist can help with issues, including self esteem or self confidence, quitting smoking, addictions, anger management or weight control – enabling you to achieve your desired goals faster than you might imagine.

What is hypnotherapy?

First things first: there’s a difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy. The former is defined as follows:

“an unconscious state in which someone can still see and hear and can be influenced to follow commands or answer questions”

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis have been used to help access the subconscious mind and meaningfully change habits or treat conditions, but the patient remains in complete control – unlike when hypnosis is used as a form of entertainment.

It is a state of deep relaxation that is achieved by a qualified cognitive hypnotherapist and a willing patient – someone who does not want to be hypnotised won’t benefit from the treatment.

Is hypnosis legal in the UK?

Absolutely! You actually enter this natural state several times a day without even thinking about it and without a therapist, for example when you’re focused on a book or TV programme and are completely relaxed.

It’s impossible to get stuck in a hypnotic or trance-like state. You’re more likely to be so relaxed you fall asleep, and most people emerging from hypnosis feel refreshed.

A hypnotherapist can do more than boost your self esteem

At my Cambridge hypnotherapy practice, I welcome a wide range of clients who are looking to bring about changes to their mind and/or body for life, and use my skills as a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist to treat a wide range of conditions.

I offer solution focused hypnotherapy, which combines modern psychotherapy methods with hypnosis, aiming to bring about rapid and significant change for the better.

M Jarret said:

“I received 10 weeks of hypnotherapy for symptoms linked to social anxiety. I was sceptical but found to my surprise and delight that over the weeks my mood was more positive and the symptoms were noticeably better. Sevarin had the right tone and approach throughout my sessions to put me at ease and gain her trust. I think she is an ideal hypnotherapist with a great deal of knowledge.”

Debilitating disorders

Hypnotherapy can help with a range of phobias, whether it’s flying, spiders, needles or heights. Your therapist can free you from irrational fears or end resistance to a particular issue using your unconscious mind to find new ways of dealing with these phobias and move past them.

Hypnotherapy can be a useful complementary therapy for people struggling with depression, as it can increase your overall sense of well-being, lift your mood, and enhance feelings of hopefulness at difficult times in their life.

Feeling anxious and being stressed often go hand-in-hand and can be debilitating both for a person suffering the mental health conditions, as well as those around them. Therapy can help!

Hypnotherapy counselling can help you find calm amid the chaos, reduce the anxiety levels while also giving you the confidence to better cope with potentially stressful situations.

Unwanted behaviours

Yes, hypnotherapy counselling can help you quit smoking – probably faster than you imagined and for life – by working with your conscious and unconscious mind to focus on the benefits of stubbing out that cigarette for good.

Therapy can also be a useful practice to help clients break the cycle of eating disorders or addictions, such as sugar or prescription medications and is, of course, a confidential service.

Many people suffer with chronic and acute insomnia but hypnotherapy techniques have been proven to be of use, in concert with good sleep hygiene. A hypnotherapist can also support anyone dealing with night terrors or regular nightmares.

Health conditions

There’s no magic wand when it comes to effective and long-term weight loss, but hypnotherapy can help clients make a positive change to their life when it comes to weight management.

For people looking for pain management, a hypnotherapist can help alleviate chronic conditions like arthritis and fibromyalgia using deep relaxation. Studies have shown over 75% of people with arthritis and related diseases have had significant pain relief using hypnosis.

OCD and PTSD

If you’re troubled by obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), hypnosis can teach you how to be more aware of your thoughts, urges and unwanted habits and help you change them for the better.

Several clinical studies have demonstrated that hypnotherapy can be an extremely effective treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) that can last for several years.

A qualified hypnotherapist can also help people struggling with trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as it enables the controlled access to and positive restructuring of memories.

Emotional support

As well as helping people quit smoking or facilitate weight loss, hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool to help people build their confidence and increase self-esteem levels, improving their emotional stability and overall awareness of self.

For anyone struggling to prevent the red mist descending and general anger management, sessions at my Cambridge hypnotherapy centre can help you better deal with those feelings of anger and tap into internal reserves of calm.

Achieve personal goals

Hypnotherapy is ideal for anyone seeking ways to achieve their personal goals, because it gives you access to the inner clarity and drive that may have been previously blocked.

The therapy also teaches you to relax, release any mindset limitations, anxiety or stress, and focus on the positive: helping each client achieve their life goals.

Hypnofertility and Hypnopregnancy

I am also a hypnofertility and hypnopregnancy practitioner, which means I can help get you in the best physical, mental and emotional state to become pregnant.

I can also offer techniques including guided meditation, visualisation, positive suggestions and affirmations to minimise fear, phobias and anxiety during childbirth.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Commonly known as NLP, neuro linguistic programming can be an effective set of psychological tools for personal development.

It stems from the concept of mind, body and language interacting to create someone’s perception of the world.

Enhance communication

NLP sessions can empower change in a person, boost motivation and communication by changing someone’s thought process, moving them away from anxiety and stress.

In a nutshell, you can change how you feel by changing how you think, using NLP.

Are hypnosis and hypnotherapy techniques recognised by the NHS?

Although not always available as a treatment on the NHS, hypnotherapy skills are recognised by it, particularly for irritable bowel syndrome, according to the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

The NHS does advise any person seeking hypnotherapy, hypnosis NLP or psychotherapy for help with emotional issues, addiction, phobias, depression or any other form of trauma, to find a fully qualified therapist.
