Facts about vaping and e-cigarettes
The use of e-cigarettes and vapes has boomed in the past decade or so, driven in part by Public Health England supporting it as a way for smokers to break their tobacco addiction.
E-cigarettes have a liquid, heated by a battery, that contains nicotine as well as other harmful chemicals, which users inhale.
The statistics linked to vaping are startling. There are around 4.5 million regular UK vapers, and more than one in five children has tried it.
Despite the impression that vaping is regarded as a safer, healthier alternative to traditional cigarettes, between 2020 and 2023, there were more than 1,000 NHS hospital admissions, and more than half of young people want to stop vaping for health reasons.
Why young people start vaping

Many people switched to vaping as a way to stop smoking cigarettes, but soon discovered the addictive nature of this popular alternative was just as difficult to give up.
Even though some allow the levels of nicotine to be altered, many people who vape are as dependent on them as they were traditional cigarettes.
For teenage vapers and younger, the appeal of vapes, which are widely available, lay in their range of funky colours and novel flavours, bolstering their ‘cool’ image.
Why people want to stop vaping
Despite the message that vapes are a safer alternative to smoking, many users have regretted starting vaping.
Health concerns
The NHS warns users that “vaping is not completely risk-free” and the long-term health impacts of vaping remain unknown. In recent years, experts have warned about the physical and mental health risks. Severe lung damage, chest pains, and exacerbating mental health conditions have all been reported.
The financial burden
Smoking and vaping are not cheap habits. While vapes are on the whole less expensive, the release of models and flavours adds to a financial drain that some users feel is more than they can bear.
Peer pressure
Growing awareness about the dangers of vaping (and smoking) means it is less socially acceptable than in times gone by. Some users feel pressured by loved ones to quit vaping and don’t want the habit to ruin relationships.
Stepping away from addiction
Many people with addiction problems feel a sense of shame at their behaviours. Vapers looking to change or break their behaviour pattern see quitting as freedom from addiction.

Why it’s hard to kick a vaping habit
There are many reasons why people have a hard time quitting vaping.
Addiction
Vapes deliver their nicotine more smoothly than cigarettes, and can contain chemicals that deepen and intensify addiction, making them harder to give up.
A deeply ingrained habit
As with any bad habit, vaping becomes a part of everyday life, associated with enjoyable pastimes like going out with friends or eating nice food. Breaking that habit can be stressful and lead to negative emotions, including feeling anxious or depressed. Holding a vape can be an emotional crutch.
An unsupportive environment
Trying to quit vaping or smoking without the support of family or friends can feel very lonely, and with nobody to help, makes temptation all the more difficult to overcome.
It’s not that bad…
The continuing perception and messaging, even from health officials, that vaping is less harmful than smoking essentially removes any urge to quit. If experts say it’s okay, why should you give up something you enjoy?
Boredom and coping mechanisms
Lots of addictions stem from emotional issues ranging from boredom to stress. Vapers who rely on their habit to cope with issues like anxiety will, in all likelihood, find it harder to stop.

What to expect from my hypnotherapy sessions
We start with a free initial consultation where I can take more information from you and you can ask me any questions.
If you decide you would like hypnotherapy, you can book a session. We start with gentle relaxation and then go deeper, accessing the subconscious using various hypnotherapeutic techniques.
Some people describe hypnosis as similar to daydreaming or a state of focused attention, but you are aware of what’s happening and in control at all times.
While you’re in this relaxed state, your conscious mind starts to take a back seat and your subconscious mind opens up.
I use positive suggestions, metaphors and visualisation to help you stop vaping for good.
Testimonials and success stories
My personalised approach to hypnotherapy has helped many people adopt healthier habits and regain control for a vape-free life. For many smokers and vapers they quit after just one session.
They included a client who had smoked or vaped daily for around 25 years. They told me:
“I’m amazed to say that over a month later, I haven’t touched a cigarette or vape. What’s truly incredible is how effortless the process has been. I’ve experienced zero cravings, no withdrawal symptoms, and no inner struggle.”
My hypnotherapy skills can do the same for you too.
